Functions of the Public Defender's office
The Seward County Public Defender is an elected official for a four year term. The responsibilities of the office include legal representation of indigent defendants charged with both misdemeanor and felony offenses. The office also provides legal representation for incapacitated parties at hearings before the Mental Health Board.
Mission Statement
The mission of the Seward County Public Defender’s office is to provide high quality legal representation for all indigent defendants and advocate zealously to protect every client’s Constitutional rights.
Public Defender Request
If you are charged with an offense which may result in jail time, and cannot afford an attorney, you can make a request to the County Court that a Public Defender (a court appointed attorney) be appointed to represent you at no cost to you.

In order to make such a request, please complete a Financial Affidavit and submit to the County Court.
