Mission Statement
The mission of the Seward County Attorney’s Office is to provide justice to the citizens of Seward County by prosecuting local and state law violations, including at times, negotiating with defendants to ensure adequate treatment and punishment of crimes; initiating and defending civil actions as needed; filing for and enforcing paternity and child support orders; providing assistance to victims of crimes; and, promoting safe and healthy lifestyles to all citizens regardless of age, gender, ethnicity, disability, religion, or other classification.
The Seward County Attorney is an official elected to a four-year term of office. The County Attorney is considered the top law official in Seward County and is counsel to Seward County and its elected officials. The County Attorney is responsible for the investigation and criminal prosecution of all felony and misdemeanor crimes that occur within all of Seward County. This office is also responsible for a number of other duties as defined by the Nebraska State Statute. The County Attorney also represents Seward County in civil lawsuits and involuntary mental health commitments, juvenile court actions, determination of inheritance tax and tax foreclosures. The Seward County Attorney and deputies shall perform all duties enjoined by law upon the county coroner and shall be ex-officio county coroner.
